Have any of you gaming nerds out there tried the Matrix online?
I was wondering if it's any good.

CHROME [02 May 2005|03:27pm]
a million faces, each a million lies
for each and all a chrome disguise
prompts for action force reaction
embody promise in a sheen so pure
hurt, the measure of blind ambition
the testament to your singular disease
against all wisdom you heed no warning
your desires giving you away

if I could change your mind
i wouldn't save you from the path you wander
in desperation dreams any soul can set you free
and I still hear you scream
in every breath, in every single motion
burning innocence the fire to set you free

your actions turn conquest to dust
in portents of fate you foolishly place trust
sense fear in your broken breathing
resort to shadows till your body expires
all creation has the promise of heaven
and still you travel the road to hell
i'm saying nothing for the good of myself
but I'm still talking and you're not listening

as night descends upon the city
the streets are cold, the lights go by
and in the stories of the people
a million faces, a million lies
they'll never say they feel what you feel
that they can see the world you see
and in their faces, their expressions
a million faces, a million lies

24 hour comic 2005 [28 Apr 2005|12:22pm]
Jarrad and I each just finished doing a 24 hour comic. He completed his in around 19 hours. I didn't finish mine.
I did 8 full pages, 3 of which you can view here, errors and all. I finished 20 pages of pencils. Next year I won't take as big a bite.

Serenity [26 Apr 2005|11:08pm]
Originally Firefly.
This was the best damn tv show ever cancelled.
Better than Battlestar, Smallville, Buffy or Angel or anything else on TV that's not animated.
Jarrad just lent me the DVDs of the 12 episode run and they blew me away. I can't explain how well written this series was.

Imagine Han Solo, with no Jedi or aliens to cramp his style. A western in space. Thow in a little weird X-files government cover up. Add a preacher, a prostitute, a doctor, a genius engineer, and a lovable idiot thug. And you have a small clue of how fun this show is.

Plus the best cast ever assembled.

The DVDs are out now.
The movie comes out in Sept.

Go see this. Watch the original series.

Earth Day [22 Apr 2005|02:11pm]
A friend's blogg pointed out it was Earth Day. (Thanks Jarrad. These things go unnoticed by me as I sit and draw my little pictures starring blankly into the luminescence of my computer.)

My favorite saying about the Earth was in a comedian's joke (I paraphrase:)

"Fuck saving the Earth- the earth doesn't need saving, the earth has existed for millennia and will exist long after we are gone. What we really mean is ' save the humans', 'cause we are the ones who are gonna die. The planet will kick our ass, it's survived ice ages, earthquakes, meteors, hurricanes, floods, plagues, and many other cataclysms - the Earth doesn't need us. I hate the pretensions of tree huggers, 'save the trees'- save yourselves you saps. Chances are good the Earth will outlast you. Besides we are more likely kill ourselves before the Earth does."

Commiseration [20 Apr 2005|02:21pm]
I hate the platitudes we hand out about death.

Nothing can ease the pain and sense of loss we have when someone close to us dies. Words fail.

I was eight when I lost my Mom.

It was the single most definitive event of my childhood, and it has marred everything in my life since.
That loss never goes away. Ever. In moments like this when reminded of her, I can find myself weeping like that heartbroken 8 year old.

The pain never really leaves you.

I think of my brother who was 5 when she died. And how every photo of him after her death you saw a indescribable sadness in his eyes - a little boy without his mommy.

You grow up fast without a mom. I had to learn to take care of myself. A "latch key kid" who was his own babysitter after school. I look around my office now and see the design sense of an eight year old, Superman posters, Star Wars action figures, and walls of comicbooks. I can't help but think much of my "adult" life has been spent trying to get in touch with that lost childhood.

I don't believe in god or heaven. The thought that she is still out there, is a false hope to me. She is gone and all I have is vague memories and hurt.

I still see her though- in her art, in my art, in my eyes and in my smile. And I hope to see her oneday in my yet unborn child.

I wish I had known her better,
I wish I had had more time,
I wish she could have gotten to see her grandchildren,
I wish ...
I wish...

The hurt never goes away...

I still miss her deeply even after 20 years.

Nothing that has ever been said to me has lessoned my pain. But it helps to know someone shares this pain with you. It's why we gather to grieve. Sometimes all we want, is to be around as many people as we can who share our hurt.

My friend recently lost his Mom.

And my heart is with him now.

SERIAL WATCHING part II [19 Apr 2005|04:36am]
JUSTICE LEAGUE UNLIMITED:

This is hands down the best superhero stuff to air on television. It helps to be a huge DC fan (as opposed to Marvel) but it sure isn't necessary. These characters are being written better than they are in the comic books on which they are based. And they manage to do it in a 30 min. episodes.

The show revolves around the exploits of a team of Superheroes that includes Superman, Batman, the Flash, Wonder Woman and practically all of the DC universe.

This series has taken a cue from the Authority*, Planetery*, Astro City and other "grown up" superhero comics like them. The League now deals with complicated problems like dictatorship, war, cloning, nano-tech and government cover-ups.

Plus you still get alien menaces blowing shit up, time travel, and Wonder Woman and Batman flirting.

It's nice to see a superhero show that can take advantage of not having to sell to an audience of children. It even has stepped a bit away from the villain of the episode mentality that is the trappings of the genre. They've developed an ongoing plot-line that involves a US government that actively works against the league creating their own superheroes in labs to act in opposition to the league in a sort of superpowered- cold war.
By mixing a huge cast of characters and referencing back story that was never part of past shows the writers also manage to give JLU a bigger than life back drop that does justice to these iconic characters.

One such episode involves Dr. Ivan's Android returning to earth for revenge against Lex Luther. It's taken for granted that the League has faced this threat before. In the comics the Android is known as Amazo and posseses the powers of all of the Justice League. None of this back story is mentioned. While neat for the fan boy it's not necessary for the plot. We know this android is a threat when we see the battalion of super-heroes that waits to defend the earth from this menace. Soon the battalion is obliterated and eventually an intergalactic super-military, the Green Lantern Corps, is brought in to deal with the robot.

Join The Never Ending Battle.

*Both of these comics where written by Warren Ellis who's influence is felt through out JLU - it's no wonder that Ellis was asked to pen a JLU Episode entitled: Dark Hart.

(Note: Paul Dini and Bruce Timm, who created the look and feel of the Animated Batman, Superman and all the DC comic cartoons to follow, still have a hand in the JLU as producers.)

No weight loss but things are shifting around a bit.
